IRON ORE

Iron ore is abundant in the world, but deposits are concentrated in a few countries, with only five accounting for 77% of total occurrences. Brazil is home to 8.3% of reserves, the fifth largest in the world, equivalent to 17 billion tons. The reserves in Brazil and Australia have the highest content of iron contained, in the order of 60%.

Brazil is the second largest producer of iron ore in the world, with China producing about 21% and Brazil, 19%. The largest Brazilian deposits are in Minas Gerais, with 61.2% of national reserves, Mato Grosso do Sul, with 28.1% and Pará, with 10.4%.
